José Carlos Barranco Ávila

Astrologer, tarot reader, poet, and editor based in Mexico City. I design experiences that bring together tarot, astrology, poetry, and wine. I have presented at spaces like La Fiambrería, Soho House México, WeWork, WineBar by CMB, Cuvée09, Dos Cuerpos, and Vinofy. In 2024, Bodegas de Santo Tomás invited me to a three week artistic residency in Ensenada, Baja California.

I have been writing for more than 20 years. I have three independently published books: the novel Utopía (2014) and the poetry collections Números primos (2018) and Música muda (2020). Poetry was my first door into the esoteric world, it taught me to speak in symbols.

the origin

The 12th House

House 12 is where our memory of the Universe resides. The origin and the end. It is linked to the unconscious and to all those patterns that go unnoticed yet still shape us in certain ways. House 12 is where the invisible takes form, the way of listening to the subtle.

It is associated with retreat, silence, and above all, surrender. It is where we must release control and answer what the Universe asks of us. In tarot, it relates to The High Priestess, The Moon, and The Hanged Man, cards that invite us to connect with our intuition, pay attention to the subtle, trust and have faith, and observe closely what is unfolding.

This is the origin of this project. A space where intuition and silence become places for self awareness and for meeting ourselves again.

Ceuta: a border crossing and a call to shared humanity

Spain deployed its armed forces to Ceuta after thousands of people crossed the border from Morocco in recent days. At least nine people died in the attempt. It is a difficult human situation, with real losses, that is part of the conversation these days.

The astrological reading

Aquarius also rules humanity as a concept, not only collective celebration. This Full Moon asks us to look past our own personal border and recognize what millions of people are living through right now, often without a name or a face in the news.

Holding this with an open heart does not require having an answer or a solution ready. Sometimes the most honest Aquarian gesture is simply choosing not to look away.
